Finding a flat in Bengaluru is already hard enough. Long commutes to check out places. Brokers who don’t show up. Prices that make your stomach drop.
But one landlord recently took things to a whole new level.
A Reddit user shared a WhatsApp screenshot that stopped people mid-scroll. The landlord had laid out a list of things you needed to send before they would even let you see the flat.
Not after. Before.
The list included:
- Photos and a video of your current home
- Salary slips
- Details about every family member — who they are, where they work
- The reason you are leaving your current place
- Police verification documents
People lost it in the comments. And honestly, fair enough.

One user wrote that they were asked for their LinkedIn profile and offer letter just to get a viewing. Another called the whole thing a serious red flag. “If this is the situation before even visiting the house, I’m not sure what they’ll do once they have your money,” someone said.
And that is the point, isn’t it?
A landlord this controlling before you even sign anything — what happens when something actually goes wrong? When the tap breaks or the deposit needs to come back?
A few people defended the landlord. They said asking for documents is normal. And sure, basic verification makes sense. ID proof. Employment details. That is reasonable.
But videos of your home? Your family’s job descriptions? That is not verification. That is an interview for a job you are paying to do.
The Bengaluru rental market is brutal right now. Demand is high. Supply in good areas is tight. And some landlords know it. They know you are competing with five other people for the same flat. So they push.
The power is almost entirely on their side.
For anyone currently flat-hunting in Bengaluru — screenshot every conversation. Know what is reasonable to share and what is not. And if a landlord is this demanding before you even see the place, walk away. The ones who treat you poorly before you are a tenant will not suddenly become better once you are.
